Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary Bagged Upright Nice Vacuum!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This vacuum cleaner is better than any Hoover product I have ever owned. It was super simple to assemble. The only problem I had with it: the belt broke within five minutes of first use. Figuring this was just a matter of a defective belt, I just went out and bought replacements. I didn’t contact the company for a new one, which I am sure I would have gotten one if I had. I didn’t want to wait; and they are not expensive at all, so I just bought a 2 pack of belts at my local Wal-Mart.

Replacing the belt was easy. Just remove four screws, take off the bottom plate, lift out the roller, and slip the new belt on. It does take a little strength to stretch the belt into place; but it is not extrememly hard. The vacuum has been working flawlessly since I put the belt on.

I like the dirt sensor on this model. Before, I had no idea if my carpet still had dirt in it after I vacuumed. With the dirt sensor, all I need to do is watch the green and red lights. When the green light stays on, the carpet is free of loose dirt particles.

I’m not sure I like the HEPA filters yet. I have never had to deal witht these before. I did tend to forget to clean the bottom filter in my old vacuum, which probably caused it to lose suction over the years. Since I need to wash the HEPA filter every time I change the bag, I will probably wash the bottom filter, also. Perhaps this will prolong the life of the vacuum.

I really like the full bag indicator on the vacuum. I have only used the vacuum four or five times since I got it. The bag is already showing full. I would have had no idea the bag could have filled up that fast without the indicator. Of course, with the HEPA bags, there is a tendancy for the pores in the bag to get clogged, so, although it does not feel full when it is checked, it still needs changing to prevent rupture of the bag.

This model has soft rubber wheels to prevent tire marks on your carpet. Almost leaves your carpet looking as if you never vacuum! :)

The push in, pull out hose is much easier to use than the one on my old model. On my old model, the hose had almost no suction until you bent over and slid the carpet height adjustment all the way to the right. Then the suction changed from floor to hose. With the WindTunnel, all you do is take the hose out and put the tools on you want to use. When you finish, just take the tools off, and put the hose back in. No bending necessary!

All the tools store on the vacuum cleaner either in the small tool compartment on top of the bag compartment, or on the back of the vacuum where you

i never write reviews but had to comment on this hoover. for the money it is an absoutely amazing machine. the suction is incredible and it pulls itself along almost if it were a self-propeled machine, which it isnt. the air smells clean as and after you vaccum meaning no dust is coming out of it unlike other machine. i read reviews that were critical of this machine because it wasnt good on bare floors - well duh - it isnt designed for bare floor cleaning! its meant for carpet and it does a phenomenal job! would highly recommend it if you are only cleaning carpet.

    Flimsy hunk of junk
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The Hoover Anniversary Bagged Vacuum is a flimsy piece of junk. It is made of 85% plastic and all parts are as delicate as it is possible to make them. The moral of this story is if you buy cheap (Chinese) junk, you got cheap junk. After about ten uses in a small floor area, the left wheel broke completely off. This after the tool holders failed, the hose holder going into the intake broke, and the the handle release stopped working because it also broke. I suspect the Hoover waranty does not cover any of this. If they actually fix this breakage I will change this review.

For comparison purposes, we have two of the old Hoover Concept One vacuums made in the USA. These are built like a tank and are still running.

The only good thing about the newer vacuums is the air powered brush. Great for cat hair on upholstry.

    Do Not Buy

I received this for Christmas (I picked it out) and I’m very disappointed. The vacuum is so loud my ears ring after using it to vacuum my house. The suction on the hose is so strong it practically renders the hose unusable for reaching higher than your waist. I even bought the extended hose, same problem. I am so surprised by this as I had a Hoover many years ago and really loved it.

Also, the self-propelled mechanism is jerky. The only good thing I can say is the suction is very strong. Now if they could work on the other problems they might have a vacuum worth buying.

I suggest if you buy this vacuum, invest in a good pair of earplugs!

    Wanted to like it…

Picked out this model after seeing a favorable Consumer Reports review, and the price was attractive compared to other options. However it was dead-on-arrival…it simply did not operate when the power switch was turned on. The power switch is a very flimsy plastic slider with some plastic linkage to the actual electrical switch, however this is all hidden within the chassis of the unit and not something you can fix without a lot of work. So I’ll be returning this unit. It’s just as well… I would not predict a long life for that switch even if it was working.

So I can’t comment on how well the thing vacuums…but I’m not inclined to try a replacement unit. The hatch for the attachments seems pretty flimsy and prone to opening when you don’t want it to. The attachments themselves are absolutely the cheapest plastic things Hoover could get away with.

I have went through 4 vacuums in the past 3 years. I have a cat, dog, teenager, and heavy traffic. I was recommended this vacuum and love it. It is a heavier vacuum but it has major suction power. Easy to use and assemble.

This is the best. Was tired of cleaning all the filters on bagless cleaners so went back to the good old bagged kind. Great suction and very easy to roll on carpet or hardwood floor. Would recommend to anyone wanting an excellent vacuum.

Good on the carpet, forget using the hose!
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This vacuum is very good on carpet and so-so on hard surfaces. Where this vacuum really comes up short is the hose. The hose has a very short useful reach, maybe 2 feet. After that, the vacuum tips over unless you brace it with your hand or run the hose between your legs and brace the vacuum with your backside.

All in all, I would not buy this vacuum again.

The most important thing to me in a vacuum cleaner is power and “cleaning ability” — and this one’s got it. Suction is strong when using the hand tools. You would expect Hoover to get the design details right after all these years of making vacuums, and they do. This model is not fancy, it just has all the essentials in the right places. One extra feature is the Dirt Finder light, which seemed gimmicky at first but actually does work well. It saves me time because I can see which areas of the carpet need to be vacuumed over twice and which areas don’t. Overall, solid cleaning power at a good price.

    Waste of money
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The Hoover U5491900 Windtunnel Anniversary Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner is a complete waste of money. It does a terrible job of picking up even the simplest dust and dirt on any carpet. The wire cord is always in the way and I ended up having to tape it to the neck of the cleaner. The Generic Hoover WindTunnel Upright Type Y Vacuum Bag that came with it - and I was foolish enough to order the suggested extra bags - kept falling off the neck of the vacuum and I finally took it off and threw it out and attached a bag from the broken cleaner I had thrown out. When I lifted the vacuum to take it into another room, clods of dust fall onto the rug I just tried to clean. So much for “hepa filter.”

The small vacuum attachments do not work either because the amount of suction the neck gets is too weak to pick up anything. I ended up picking up pieces and dropping them into the neck as I tried to do my stairs.

The positive reviews I read of this on Amazon make me question the validity of who is writing the reviews. With what I experienced with this vacuum, I wonder if an employee of Hoover bought a vacuum from Amazon and reviewed it. That’s how much I hate this vacuum.

Did the demo thing today for this model. I liked it for the most part.

    Noise level seemed good

The attachment cover is a little like pandora’s box, but once you know the secret it’s like open sesime. Much better than hitting the old Wintunnel with clips on the back.

Wish I had practiced with the hose. I did take it off and put it back, but really didn’t use it.

Agitator design and belt guard looked much better than older windtunnels.

    Seems reasonably easy to handle.

Access to the bag area is a bit tough. One of the users is severely arthritic in the hands.

Bagged seems much easier than bagless. The users alergic to dust, Asthma and pollen it will be welcomed not to have to painstakeingly clean the filters.

It’s not out of the box. May be able to get it about $40 cheaper.

I love my Hoover! It has great suction and does a great job! I do have stairs and expected the hose to be a little bit longer though.

    Very Disappointed
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this vacuum 8 months ago after careful consideration of reviews online, as well as Consumer Reports. I have an average household with children, 2 cats, and a low-ish pile carpet due to dust allergies in the family. This Hoover Wind Tunnel model worked oh so well for the first 1-2 months. After that, I was unclogging it every time I went to use it. I had to pull it outside to unclog it every use because the clogs were so bad, they made huge messes-then the vacuum would not clean the mess after I unclogged each time! I replaced bags a 1/4 full. I finally called Hoover for a rerfund under warranty and they would not even talk to me without taking it to a service dealer. The service dealer unclogged it, and Hoover refused to refund saying I could unclog it at home and I had the “wrong carpet”!!!!! There is nothing abnormal about my carpet!

The warranty states “normal household use” - and only carpet fuzz and cat hair clogged it every time I used it! I am now stuck with a piece of junk and $160 loss. My previous $99 Hoover lasted 20 years! Very disappointed in the lack of customer service and lack of quality from Hoover.

    A LOT OF EXTRA WORK!!!!
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
First of all, I’m a committed “bagged” user! This item seemed like a good option since I just rented an apt (approx. 600 sf.) with new wall to wall carpeting.

My first surprise was the “droppings” of new carpet fuzz which, when I had to stop and pick them up, were not soft but “congealed fuzz balls of various sizes. If I didn’t pick them up, the number of droppings increased and it seemed as if the vacuum lost pick up efficiency.

My second surprise was the amount of fuzz formed around the brush and further up the intake tube some of which was soft fuzz! After cleaning all of this out by hand {about a gallon size container worth of this comfination) from the bottom of the vacuum over the course of using three times, I checked the bag, read the manual again, and started saving this accumulation to return to Hoover!

Needless to say, I am disappointed…in addition to moving cross country, this was NOT a welcome activity! I admit I’m holding on to the hope that after a couple more vacuums of the new carpet, this extracurricular activity will abate…I may be losing faith, however, since my last of four uses seemed not to be an improvement. What to do, Hoover? P.S. Expect my package of fuzz??? Return the vacuum???

You know you can spend alot of money on vacums. Or you can just stick to what works for you. I have owned Hoovers for 25 years and have always been pleased. I inherited a bagless dirt Devil when I remarried 3 yrs back and it is crap. I bought this on amazon for an amazing price and just love it. The cord is a little short. The accesory hose is a little stiff. But boy does it pick up the dirt and rolls almost by itself.nuff said
