DON’T DO IT!!! - BELT BROKE IN < 5 MINUTES!!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The vacuum appears to be great - the right level of suction, attachments, weight…however after using it for about 4 minutes the belt broke. I read dozens of reviews on Amazon prior to purchase, several of which mentioned the belt breaking, however the good reviews seemed to outweigh the bad and I took the risk. Now I’m shipping it back for a refund.

Good thing I kept the $99 Dirt Devil…

I am used to classic Electorlux vacuums and I hate shopping for one because if you get the wrong one (which are many), you are going to hate it. I was just looking around and saw this at a great price with good reviews(I dismiss the few negatives with petty complaints) and workable price. It also looked cool and it was bag-less - a first for me.

In my life (mainly my mother’s vacuums) I dealt with Kenmore (hated it), Hoover(no opinion), Electrolux (the REAL deal) and an Oreck XL (good for what it was, but ultimately cheap and lost suction). I decided to go with a Hoover and see what this was all about. I felt that since other brands and sought after by women and they are bag-less, I thought that I would give this design a try.

I go the package (shipped in retail box) from Fedex Ground and it was opened. They re-taped it in a sloppy way. It should have been double-boxed or something. This box is not good for shipping. I was afraid that something would be broken or missing. I believe everything was there. It did appear new. Assembly was easy and it looks more modern and powerful than the old Oreck with the expensive bags.

I can only judge this by having it for about 4 months and having used it about 4 or 5 times. I like to judge vacuums by long-term use and if it still sucks up. So far, it works very well. It is no Electrolux, but it is in the area and puts the Oreck to shame. My carpet looked clean and was plush after vacuuming. With the Oreck, it only became mainly clean on the surface only. I feel good about this move that was made on this.

Best vacuum I have bought in a long time!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this vacuum last week and when it arrived I was hoping I spent my money well. I have to say that after about five minutes of unscrewing the handle and then reattaching it to the base it was ready to go. Easy. When I was using it I could fill how powerful it was. It was also quiet and easy to push. Kind of heavy for lifting while cleaning the stairs but if you want a decent motor you have to have a little weight.

The attachments worked well. Emptying the canister was easy. No fuss getting it out, pushing the button, giving it a little shake and then using the attached plastic handle thingy on top to “wind” the filter so all the dirt was released. I have never seen a vacuum so easy to clean! I am thinking of buying one for the downstairs because it has a three year warranty and it really does a great job getting all the dirt up. I would recommend this to anyone.

This vacuum is not meant to be utilized for any surface area other than carpet. The machine did a fair job on the carpet, however, on bare floors of any type the dirt and other items (e.g. cat litter) on the floor simply shoot out the back of the machine due to the roller. The solution stated in the manual does nothing to prevent or solve this problem, I ended up having to sweep both the area I intended to vacuum and the area I had already vacuumed due to dirt that had been sprayed out the back. Unlike other machines meant for both carpet and bare floor use there is no way to turn the roller off with this model.

The product is okay, but not as good as Consumer Reports says it is. The exhaust air comes out of the front and blows the dust around that I am trying to capture. My Hoover arrived without one attachment and missing some screws. It was not packed well, so I suspect it had been someone else’s return. I will not order any products of this type from Amazon again. Amazon should stick with books and movies.

    Very therapeutic

Great machine. Absolutely love the dirt sensor feature. I have always attempted to keep my floors as clean as possible, but with big, unruly dogs who continually bring the great outdoors indoors, it was a losing battle. It was surprising the amount of dirt that apparently remained embedding in the carpet after using my my prior vacuum. Previously, when steam cleaning the carpet, there would be a significant layer of dirt/mud at the bottom of the dirty water receptacle. Now, after using this great product, there is no more layer of dirt and mud at the bottom of the steam cleaner. Not especially happy with the performance on hard floors, but on carpeting it is spectacular.

    Excellent vacuum

My wife and I have had an earlier version of this vacuum, the Hoover model U5753-900, for many years. Last week the switch went on it. My wife and I shopped around at some local stores and wanted to replace our vacuum with a similar model, maybe the next model up the line. We found the best price on Amazon and ordered this unit, model U5786-900. We are extremely pleased with the improved performance of this model. We always had great performance from the other Hoover as well, which is why we wanted to get another Hoover model to replace it. We have had other brand vacuums over the years (we are homeowners for over 33 years) and the Hoovers always outperform the others and last longest.

The particular features I like on this U5786 are the improved roller brush hairs, which are strong yet flexible, and the lightness of the vacuum overall. I was surprised to find it is almost self-propelled and very easy to push. It comes with three additional tools in the top compartment, including a mini roller head that is perfect for couches and other furniture. They advertise it as a Pet Hair Tool, and with our 12 year old Golden Retriever always finding a way to get to her favorite couch spot, this tool will get a lot of use.

Another great innovation over the U5753 that they put in the U5786 is a one-touch Bottom Empty Dirt Container. I really like the whole bagless vacuum concept, replacing the need to pull out and dispose of a filthy dusty vacuum bag all the time - when is it full, where are the replacement bags, hope I don’t rip the replacement bag putting it in the vacuum, all that baloney. And I always would get hit with a cloud of dust in the face when I removed a full bag, and sometimes the darn bag would break - great fun let me tell you. So I was very glad that they came up with the bagless canister design. And the Hoover design is great, very efficient and easy to empty, clean, and reassemble. Anyway, now you don’t even have to take the canister apart and knock off the dust on the filter and re-assemble everything and wash your hands - you press a button and the bottom pops open, and into the garbage can everything goes. Also, there is a crank on the top and a plastic bar inside that knocks all the dirt and dust off the filter for you - and into the garbage can. Clip the bottom back up and slip it back in, and away you go. I still wash my hands but I don’t really need to with this design. The extension arms snap into the side of the vacuum, easily accessible. Also, a thinner extension arm fits into one of the regular extension arms for storage - good idea.Wind the cord onto the back of the unit and into the closet it goes. I think some higher-end models have a retractable cord, I would have liked that, but this one was in my price range.

This is really a well designed, well functioning vacuum that does the job superbly and lasts a long time and isn’t a pain to deal with at all. And oh yeah, I broke out my screwdriver set, did a little digging into the U5753, and was able to remove the defective switch. Tested it with a Volt-Ohm meter and verified it was NG. I went to a local vacuum repair shop and got an identical replacement switch for the U5753 for $10, popped it in and it works like a charm. So now I have a backup / upstairs vacuum and a main vacuum, both of which I am very pleased with.

Can’t go wrong with Hoover in my book.

sorry for a bad review. but it is amazing that hoover sells a product like this one. it’s loud, does not perform well, is cheaply done and came scratched and already used or refurbished? not used since it’s first use. i guess i should take it back to amazon but am afraid that it is too late for a return now (took it out of the box 3.5 months after purchasing it) not recommending this product at all. Have a hoover stick vac from the platinum lynx series (Li-Ion powered) Small and quick at hand, much better quality. Great for small quick jobs.

    Hoover Windtunnel Bagless Anniversary Model

I have used this vac several times and like it a lot, especially it’s ability to pick up the pet hair from my long haired lovable old kitty cat who loves me so much she follows me to whatever room I’m in and is often in my lap, even when I’m trying to type.

I previously owned a Fantom Cyclone [no longer in business], which was very innovative at the time, including a HEPA filter, was bagless, and had an extension stored in the handle, from a TV infomercial. It has served faithfully for 19 years, but when I read that this new Hoover excelled at picking up cat hair, I decided it was time for a change.

It has the same innovative features as the Fantom and does an even better job with its more powerful suction and is self propelled which makes the chore a little easier. I particularly like the little red light that comes on when it hits an area with extra dirt so you can hit it again. It always works. It is also easy to carry up and down stairs because the handle is in the middle so it’s better balanced to carry. I was used to emptying the Fantom after each whole house use and this one is just as easy to empty [I do it outside to eliminate the possibilty of an accidental mess on the carpets I just cleaned].

It’s removable handle extension is even better than the Fantom’s because it is more powerful and has an innovative stored in the front and easy to get out, spinning brush which does a good job of picking up pet hair from upholstered furniture.

    I like everything about it.

    This vaccum really sucks

Gave this vaccum to my daughter for a Christmas gift as her old one had died. She has two dogs and this vaccum sucks up the dog hair like crazy. The vaccum was easy for her to assemble and use. I can recommend this on to anyone with pets.

We bought this vacuum because it was the only one Consumer Reports recommended. (November ‘09 issue I think) It has been over a month and so far I love it. We have a cat and a dog that both shed entirely too much. This vacuum works great on the pet hair and the kid messes. I’ve used it on wood floors, carpet, and furniture. The unit is heavy, so I wouldn’t recommend carrying it up and down stairs. But, I think because of its weight it pulls me through the house, even though it isn’t supposed to be self-propelled. Overall I am pleased. I would and have recommended this product.

    Overall Good Vacuum
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This vacuum is pretty heavy so if your lugging it up and down steps it may be a turnoff to you; however for me I like the weight as it feels more sturdy. The On/Off slider and general upper portion of the vacuum does not feel as sturdy as the bottom.

Cleaning wise; it’s excellent; the dirt finder feature seems like a gimmick; but seems to actually work fairly well in identifying spots you may have missed.

Noise level is about average to high; definitely not a quiet vacuum.

Pros: Sturdy bottom/base, Cleans very well

Cons: Possibly heavy for some, little messy to clean, smallish canister for dirt

    Out with the old.

-1 star for the size, but what an improvement from my old vacuum. Using a coupon at Burlington I got this for half the price it sells for on amazon. Was going to buy a cheeper dirt devil ($49) but I’m glad I splurged. Just vacuumed the whole house and the ceiling rail, looking forward to my nice new clean vacuum and putting the old one out on the street.

Bought it a few months ago now, it arrived with the box smashed to smithereens, the vacuum was still intact somehow. I have mixed feelings on the vacuum. It does pull up the dirt like a fiend. But it suffered a broken belt with in two weeks. Now the little clean indicating light on the front isn’t working. The manual recommends it be taken apart and cleaned quite a bit. There are a lot of pieces to take apart. It’s much cheaper feeling and looking than I imagined it would be. I say all this but it cleans well. I am very happy with the power at my disposal. So it’s a mixed bag. I’ll settle on being happy I have clean rugs.

I have another wind tunnel by Hoover and love it. They have improved it by being able to empty from the bottom instead of the top. It picks up cat hair really well and the red and green lights show what needs more vacuuming. It’s definitely an improved model and I recommend it.
