Does what I want it to, but with some compromises
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have to say that, first off, I have two long haired cats. They shed EVERYWHERE. I also have pretty robust allergies, so it was important to get a vacuum that I felt would handle all the hair, dust, etc or our largely carpeted house. In that regard, I could not be happier. This picks up so much out of the floors that our old vacuums left behind. The clean/dirty indicator light is also kind of mesmerizing (how effective it is I don’t know) It also does a great job at picking up debris on our hard surfaces and it is wonderful to be able to turn the brush off to do so. No more rolling over things multiple times, only to have them rattle around and shoot off in another direction. This has incredibly strong suction power. The cord is incredibly long and the electronic height adjustment could not be easier to use. I feel like it handles pretty well also.
Where things could be improved: The dust bin is kind of messy to empty as many others have noted. If you have a hard floor surface to use to close it again, you need not involve your fingers however. The on board tools are a joke, and almost seem like an afterthought. The vacuum itself is a bit on the heavy side as well (good exercise if you have carpeted stairs as I do).
As for the tools, a small fix took care of that: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VD5TG6/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_titleBissell 3260 Pet Pack Vacuum-Cleaner Attachments - it attaches with ease to the hoover and provides an excellent wide path spin brush and upholstery tool for very little extra money. More than makes up for the tools that come with the Hoover, and still saves you a bunch over a Dyson.
Overall: The vacuum isn’t perfect, but I feel like it is quite good for the price and strongly comparable to the somewhat more expensive Dysons.
Hoover gets the Dirt!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
After 25 years of using a Hoover hand me down (from my Mom) I decided I needed to find something a little more state of the art to clean with. Not a hard task! The old Hoover had run it’s course and was basically worn out. After reading lots of reviews for different brands and models, I bought another Hoover.
I’m very satisfied. It has a lot of cleaning power and has features I really like: Height settings (controlled by an electric switch on the upper handle) which lower and raise the cleaning unit to accommodate different cleaning needs. The first of four settings (the highest) is great for hardwood and tile floors which I have a lot of. The brushes do not rotate on this setting - just suction which appears to do the job well. The 2nd through 4th height settings result in lowering the unit closer to the floor and start the brushes rotating to brush the carpet as it cleans. For the carpeted area of my house, I’ve never had to go beyond the second of the four height settings.
I love the “Dirty/Clean” light which seems pretty accurate in determining what areas are clean and which aren’t. Kind of fun watching it turn “Clean” after cleaning a section.
Also, the “bagless” unit makes it easier to toss the dirt from the easily removed dirt container which snaps out for an easy trip to the trash can. I’m always amazed how much debris and dust gets captured during my twice a month cleanings. Okay, maybe this is not the cleanest house on the block but it’s still nice to see the dirt disappear when I do clean. The unit is a bit bulky but the rollers are useful for maneuvering it about.
All in all, this vacuum sucks! (In a good way!)
Best Vacuum I’ve Ever Owned!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I researched vacuum cleaners for a month and everything that I was looking for lead me to the Hoover. My comparisons were Dyson and Meile, which are way out of my price range! I have a two bedroom apartment (approx 1200 sq ft) two kids and a small dog. I buy a vacuum about every six months. I wanted something that was going to last and keep working!!! I think I’m going to be very happy with this vacuum. Price was right on Amazon ($250ish). Assembly was very easy. Two screws to attach the handle to the unit and I was ready to go! The suction is amazing!!! I wanted to address some of the complaints that I’ve seen on many boards…. The dirt cup IS hard to close. But just hold down the button you pressed to open it and it will catch the latch. Stop trying to slam it shut!! I was able to figure it out and my hands did not get dirty!! The only time my hands did get dirty was emptying the cyclonic cone. No big deal. I expect that when I have a bagless unit. I’m not sure how sophisticated dumping dirt can be…realistic expectations people!!! I suspect that regular vacuuming with this unit will cut down on the number of times I have to empty it…as its first use was excessive because it was picking up after a far inferior vacuum. I also read about the hose being too short. Again, realistic expectations…I gave it a good stretch before using it and I was able to reach the ceiling….what more do you want? I see they sell an attachment…. And for this thing not being self propelled (and I will admit, I’ve never owned one) it sure did jump right into action when I turned it on! A six year warrantee is nice too…that says to me that they stand behind the workmanship and don’t expect anything to break…and if it does they will fix it! SIX YEARS!! After buying a new vacuum every six months…that sounds pretty sweet!! I’m very happy with my purchase!! Thank you Hoover!!
Picks up dirt I did not know was there.

I was and possibly still am a little skeptical of a vacuum priced so low, however I may have been a past sucker in purchasing an Electrolux vacuum many years ago at a very expensive price. I don’t have experience with longevity of this vacuum since I just purchased it here at Amazon.
I can say the vacuum has picked up such fine particles of dirt my older vacuum missed that I was astonished at what my vacuum was not picking up.
I like this vac as I can turn off the beater bar. I have some Shaw carpet that requires NO beater bar when cleaning it. Sounds strange I know, some carpet sellers don’t even know that they are selling carpet which requires suction only and cleaning 2 times a week.
The vacuum is a little heavy but not any heavier than my canister vac.
The cord is SUPER long.
You do have to hand wind the cord up, not the best feature.
I found the dirt finder display to work properly and well.
Putting my hand or a large paper over the bottom of the vacuum I found the suction to be not so good. However when I start to vacuum a low profile area rug the suction is so incredible I can’t hardly even push the vacuum over the carpet.
This can be good and bad. You have to really push it.
I don’t have this problem on our other carpet. I think it is because the area rug is on a hard wood floor and the suction is making a tight seal through the rug and on the hardwood floor.
Overall I am happy with this purchase.
I hope the vac lasts a very long time.
One thing I do wish it came with was a attachment with a rolling brush to remove hair from furniture.
Very good Vacuum, especially for the money!

We have been using this vacuum for about 2 months now. We Love the vacuum. I only have 2 complaints at this time to report. 1. The upholstery tool has a little clip so you can remove the brushes, this clip broke last week but i think you can get a whole new tool from Hoover for under 4$. I just used a strong glue to reattach the brushes. 2. The area with the end of the cyclone tubes has dust in it and it makes the vacuum look dirty even when its been emptied? Not sure if dirt was supposed to get into that area but it just cosmetic and doesn’t affect the oeration, just looks bad. But all in all i am impressed with the vacuum, its my first upright I had been usimg my mothers old Rainbow D2 that finally dies after 30+ years. I was amazed at how much dirt this vacuum picked up and continues to remove from the carpets. The carpets are definately much brighter than they were with the old vacuum. I have a hoover dual V steam vac and love it as well. Seems like Hoover may just have some of the best products for carpets.
A really good vacuum!!

I decided to purchase this vacuum after owning two lightweight vacuums that did not hold up well…one was a Shark and the other was a Eureka. So I decided to go back to a full size vacuum. I selected this vacuum mainly because of three features that it has: 1) A brush roll shut-off feature, 2) a nice, long cord, and 3) a lifetime washable filter that is very easy to clean. I really like this vacuum and it’s proven to be very efficient. The only slight complaint I have is Hoover’s customer service. When the vacuum arrived, it was missing the screws that hold it together. Even though I ordered this product from Amazon, I called Hoover’s customer service to resolve the situation. I had to call them twice, and it took two weeks to get these 2 screws in the mail that were required to even use the vacuum. Once that problem was resolved, I’ve had no complaints!

Worth it’s weight!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this vacuum in December 09 after owning an $89 dirt devil for a few years. This vacuum is amazing! It’s a little heavy, but it’s self-propelled and not difficult to maneuver. The wand has a handle on it, so there is no detatching it from the bottom, you just pull the handle, and suck up stuff in the corners..that was a HUGE selling point for me. It has tremendous suction. Dirt canister is easy to empty, no mess. Other reviews mentioned it’s hard to close the flip-bottom dirt canister after you open it, but all you have to do is close the flap and mash down the button kinda hard…and it’s closed. The power cord is EXTRA LONG. I can vacuum the whole living room, hallway, and kitchen without switching outlets. It “purrs” when you turn it on. Hoover also has a six-year limited warrenty!! I highly recommend this vacuum. Worth the weight and worth the price!
Glad I chose this over Dyson!

It was time for a new vacuum, and I spent a month going back and forth between this Hoowever Platinum Upright and one of the more expensive Dyson models. So glad I settled on this one! Very powerful vacuum. I was shocked at how much stuff it pulled out of the carpet and off floors that my old Hoover had been leaving behind. Also love that this one doesn’t kick back dirt on the floors like my other Hoover did. It works fantasticly on both carpet and on wood floors and ceramic tile.
One of the things I LOVE which made me choose this over the Dyson is the raising and lowering of the vacuum is on the handle of the vacuum. I HATED bending over with my old Hoover to move the dial from bare floors to high carpet. Such a pain. With this Hoover Platinum, I do it with a touch of the button and don’t have to bend over. This is a huge plus because I have carpet in the bedrooms, wood floors in the living area and ceramic tile in the kitchen, hallways and bathrooms. I was constantly having to bend over to raise/lower as I went room to room. No more with this one! Also love that it has a really long cord so I can do three rooms without unplugging. This vacuum is also narrower than my older Hoover so it fits into smaller spaces better.
I have three minor complaints: Yes, the attachment hose is too short. But I knew this when I decided to buy it. Hoover really needs to look at increasing the length on future models. I was also surprised to find that the vacuum is made of a cheaper plastic than I had imagined for a vacuum at this price. But I bought it to clean, not for a beauty contest, so it does the job well. Like some other reviewers mentioned, the DIRTY/CLEAN sensor is really unnecessary. You know just by sight and sound that the floor is already clean when the CLEAN comes up.
As other reviewers mentioned, this is a heavy vacuum. I also knew that when buying it. But I would choose the heavier vacuum with the raise/lower feature than a lighter Dyson without it.
Very satisfied with my purchase overall and know I’ll get years of use from it as I have with other Hoover products.
Love it!!!!!

I ordered this on 12-17-09 and got it on 12-19-09 arrived sooner than expected. I have 7 cats and a black lab, all shed so I have to vacuum everyday and I am very happy with it. wish the canister was a little larger so I didnt have to empty it out so often, but I can live with that. Picks up everything so watch out, It is also very light to pick up and to use, so it doesnt hurt your back when having to carry it up stairs. My other cleaner was so bulky and heavy. One more plus is that it is very easy to take apart and clean. So I HIGHLY recommend this product. I am very happy with it.Hoover UH70015 Platinum Collection Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Superb job doing what it’s made for

I’d read review of this vacuum before buying it, and the theme was that people were amazed at how much dirt it picks up. I was skeptical until I got it. Now, count me in. I did a test when I first got it. I vacuumed the upstairs with our 15+ year old cheapo vacuum, then after it was “clean”, I did it again with the Hoover. I think I emptied the dirt cup 3-4 times!!! I was simultaneously amazed and disgusted at all the dirt that had been there. Granted, a lot of it was loose carpet fibers, but also quite a bit of very fine powder.
This is a powerful vacuum. It’s main job is to remove dirt from carpet. It does this job exceptionally well. The “Dirty” indicator is a bonus, and it is not a gimmick. It consistently lights up right in the heavy-traffic spots I’d expect it to. And the long cord is great. For this main cleaning job, the vacuum was worth it.
There are some things that this product does not do exceptionally well.
* It does an OK job on bare floors.
* Edge cleaning is pretty much non-existent. You’ll need to grab the attachment hose for a quick run around the edges.
* Stair cleaning is awkward. This is not a lightweight, agile vacuum you can carry around with you as you vacuum the stairs. You need to park the machine on a flat floor or landing and use the hose attachment for stair cleaning. This is sometimes difficult with tall stair runs.
I don’t agree with other reviews that the hose doesn’t reach above shoulder height — but it is a coiled hose. To get more length, you need to twist the hose. Also, I thought the manual was pretty clear about how to empty the center cup, and it is easy to do.
So, if you want a powerful machine that does a great job at cleaning carpet, this product is a great choice. Realize it takes a hefty motor to get that, and you won’t find a vacuum that is both as powerful as this, yet lightweight and agile.
Great vaccum

I had a dyson for pet hair prior to this. Iniially I thoughtit was great but over time it didn’t last. This vacuum picks up cat hair and cleans better then any other vacuun I ever had. I ordered the attachment for vacuuming furniture from hoover and it picks up the hair that sticks to the furniture.
Not quite what I hoped, but ok.

Pros:
Has a 6-year warrantee. This is lucky because the first one I had, after using about a month of use, started spontaneously turning itself off after running for a few seconds. Hoover replaced it for free.
Good suction.
Cons:
The hose is much too short and it has only one extension wand.
Pet owners should know it clogs very easily, and you have to empty it after nearly every use.
Excellent vacuum

I really like this vacuum!Easy to use, long cord, easy dump container, life time filters. Can’t get under beds or low furniture. No big deal, this really gets up the dust and dirt. You will love how this works,i do,really glad i spent the money on a good working vacuum.I would put this up against any vacuum out there, and bet this one is more powerful, better all around.Six year warranty is great, but i am betting i won’t need it.
Short but sweet!

The suction on this vacuum is great. I love the light that tells you that the spot you are cleaning is clean or still dirty. The only problem that I had with the vacuum is that the hose is not very long. It does need a longer hose. It does not reach very high and there is not enough hose to reach all the steps to the top.

Very high quality construction, strong suction, “dirt finder light” very handy though it doesn’t seeem to be as sensitive as the one on my 10 year old hoover. I would recommend this product especially at the current pricing.
