Handy little critter

When the motor burned out on my second-hand Electrolux canister, I was willing to spend up to $400 on a new vacuum cleaner. I’m glad I saved my money by buying this model. I do miss the Electrolux beater brush for carpets, but that said, I find this a very efficient little machine. I couldn’t decide whether or not to go bagless, and the cloth bag is the perfect, retro compromise. I can sling the strap over my shoulder and because of the chord length, clean much of our 3 story, over-furnished house from one outlet. No bumping into furniture or chipping the paint off corners, and cleaning stairs and ceiling cobwebs is a breeze.
good vacuum, bad hose

I owned the previous model of this vacuum for over 20 years. This model does just as good a job except the hose is a stretch model instead of the fixed length type. It is really tough to get the hose to extend, which makes it very inconvenient to vacuum up high like drapes and tops of furniture. I wish they would offer the other type of hose.

I bought this vacuum and it has to be the biggest piece of crap I have ever bought. It will not even pick up crumbs off my hardwood floors without going back and forth over and over. I’m returning it…hope they don’t give me a hard time about it. It wasn’t exactly cheap. Cheap made, but not cheap in price.

I am thrilled with this vacuum cleaner. I purchased a portopower from hoover more than 25 years ago and it just died this year. Not too much has changed with this machine except for the better: the cord is twice as long which makes it easier to use and it has a shoulder strap so it doesn’t bang into and scratch all of your furniture. It is lighter than the older model, has more attachments and if it lives as long as the last one, it will probably outlive me!

I love this little vacuum cleaner. I strap it over my shoulder and walk around the whole house sucking up dust and cobwebs. It is great on the hard floors as well. Has a lot of power. I don’t use it on carpet at all as it doesn’t pick up good on carpet but I didn’t buy it for that so I don’t care. The cord is really long so I can cover a lot of space.

I am in love this vacuum!!! I love this little sucker!!! Okay it is just a vacuum but it is perfect; it is simple, it does the job and is such a pleasure to use!!! I can easily clean the hair off of the cat tree, the furniture, the litter all around the cat box, hardwood floors, and all of the areas around the computer cords, you name it. The long cord is great you can go anywhere with it and the attachments stay attached and there are so many good ones to use. The little bag inside seems small but takes long to fill and is reusable. So where have you been all of my life??? I don’t even like to clean and now I’m sort of a clean freak (Felix Unger look out). I highly recommend it!!! Just be careful not to drop it on your foot. I did and broke me toe. It is classic sort of 70’s in design (box style), no frills, plain basic but it WORKS. I had bought one of those little (Shark) vac’s previously and it didn’t even last me a week. This one is worth every penny.
Only vacuum you need

This is a great vacuum for overall cleaning around the house. I love that it comes with all the attachments that you could possibly need (crevice tool, hard surface floor brush, dusting brush, and more). I was searching for a vacuum to clean my hardwood floors because sweeping and dusting just wasn’t picking up all the debris. And I swept everyday because my 2 toddlers play and crawl on the floors. I researched stick vacuums, but they just didn’t seem to have enough suction power. I also looked at canister vacuums, but some were quite expensive and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to drag a canister along my new hardwood floors. I considered getting a small ShopVac because I know they’re pretty powerful, but they didn’t come with a brush attachment for cleaning hardwood surfaces. Somewhere in my search on the web, I came across the Portapower. It was portable, light, and it came with 5 different nozzles and 2 wands. Plus, the reviewers commented that it was powerful. The price was right and I was sold. I used it yesterday for the first time and was very impressed. The only negative comment I have is that the machine is not very attractive. It’s just a little black box that you can strap to your shoulder with a long orange electrical cord. But who really cares, right? It does its job great!

I have been looking for a portable vacuum for my home for some time. We have hardwood and tile and was disappointed with the other canister vacuums we have used. Finding bags was a real hassle, the tools were cheaply made, the hoses were plastic, the cords too short ect. This vacuum is powerful, not to loud and is high quality. Metal wands,durable flexible hose and tools that are well made. The hose,wands and tools attach with ease and stay connected! I love the fact that you can hang it on your shoulder while cleaning versus of dragging it behind you and it tipping over. The long heavy duty cord is great because you can move about without having to constantly find an outlet. It comes with a reusable cloth bag which is a huge plus. One of the upholstery brushes (you get two)has a rubber comb along with soft brushes and it picked up the cat hair from our sofa with one swipe! I like that it doubles as a blower to keep my outdoor patio free of debris. Although it is tagged as a commercial vacuum, I highly recommend it for general home use!

I have three big dogs that leave a lot of hair on the tile and wood floors. I wanted a light weight vacuum that would make picking up the wisps of dog hair a breeze, this vacuum does the job and also works great on the furniture and the car interior.

My old Portapower is about to die (over 30 years old) and I was pleased to find this one online. We use this all the time and find it very handy and powerful for everything except carpet. It’s great on stairs, hardwood, tile, cleaning out the car and many other uses. An upright does a better job on big pieces of carpet, but this vacuum is great for everything else.

I’ve used this vacuum for years, not as a primary vacuum for carpets, but for just about everything else. I bought another one recently only so I could bring one to the office. It’s light enough so it doesn’t kill you to carry it around, and it comes with enough accessories to do just about any vacuuming job around the house. And like I said, it’s lasted for years without a problem. Highly recommended.

I have yet to un-box the unit, but if this recent one has any of the genealogy of it’s 1975 brother then it will be a killer. My previous one I bought new from a Wal-mart in Selma Alabama, not long after opening there. I only had to replace the cloth bag because moisture was sucked in and the bag disintegrated. I would still be using the first one, except fire destroyed it in August 2006, and I have been shopping for a replacement ever since.
If there is every a vacuum to buy for long term use, then you can not go wrong unless you have bad luck buying a rare exception.
If you have hard surface floors, buy this vacuum!

My place is mostly hardwood floors with some area rugs. I got sick of dragging a canister behind me, banging into stuff, tipping over, etc. This fits over my shoulder, and with the long cord, it makes vacuuming so much easier. I kept my big vacuum for occasional beater bar cleaning of my rugs, but I routinely vacuum the rugs with this little gem as well. I really like this vacuum — it does a great job and is a real time saver.
Pros:
- Great suction
- Sturdy but lightweight metal wands that don’t accidentally come apart
- Attachments that don’t fall off the wand
- Really long cord — I can vacuum my entire condo from the same outlet
Reusable and washable bag with an option for using paper bags
Cons:
- No cord reel — adding one would make the unit bigger and heavier — they give you a handy strap to hold the cord on the vacuum for storage
- No on-board attachment storage — again, adding one would make the unit bigger and heavier — I just keep my attachments in a small tote bag
- 1970’s styling — this is either a “pro” or a “con” depending on how you look at it.
Best Option for Small Space

The owner of a home cleaning business gave this to me for a wedding present, and after one use I put our other vacuum in the attic. This powerful little machine is perfect for our small townhouse and the wide array of attachments makes cleaning up after my always shedding dogs a cinch. The vacuum would have gotten 5 stars if the nubs on the attachments were a little more robust.
